Lux Dice, the Air Dice game with a golden touch

The studio cultivates a rare speciality. Where most developers line up reels, Air Dice builds games in which the player places the dice himself. A school apart, tailored to the Belgian market, and this title is one of its most glittering examples.

The presentation embraces the luxury theme to the hilt. Gold tones, metallic reflections and a hushed mood wrap around the playing table. You could believe yourself in a private lounge rather than in front of a screen.

How to play Lux Dice: three dice, four boxes

Every turn opens with a roll. A set of three random dice appears, and you must drop it into one of the four boxes on the table. The choice is entirely yours, and that is precisely what makes the genre so compelling.

The goal fits on a single line. Gather three matching dice in a horizontal or diagonal row, within one box. Each completed row earns points, and the round builds itself placement after placement.

Nothing to do, then, with a reel slot. Here you never simply sit through a turn: every set you place demands a decision, and two players facing the same roll will not play the same round.

The controls stay within easy reach. You set your stake before each roll, and the built-in paytable spells out the value of every combination. That way you can check the scoring without ever leaving the table.

The scoring in Lux Dice: a 100-point threshold and multipliers

For anyone new to the genre, the learning curve is short. You grasp the logic after a single roll, and the first completed row feels good straight away. Depth remains, though: where you place your dice decides how much a round ultimately pays.

Scoring is not enough on its own; you also have to clear the bar. The rules set a threshold of at least 100 points to land a win. Below that, the round stays blank, however many rows you close.

The multipliers reward those who take ground. Points in three boxes apply a x1.5 to your score, and filling all four boxes lifts the coefficient to x2. Land nine matching dice in a single box and 200 points are added on the spot.

The essentials at a glance:

• Type: placement dice game

• Table: 4 boxes, sets of 3 dice to position

• Goal: 3 matching dice in a horizontal or diagonal row

• Win threshold: at least 100 points

• Multipliers: x1.5 (3 boxes filled), x2 (4 boxes)

• Bonus: Lux Wheel, via 3 consecutive Bonus dice

• Maximum win: up to 100 times the stake during the Mystery rounds

This tiered system creates a particular tension. A well-filled box can suddenly be worth double, and a ninth matching die tips an average round into the green. Every placement counts, from the first to the last.

The Lux Wheel in Lux Dice: a wheel of three loops

The bonus turns up when three Bonus dice follow one another. The Lux Wheel then opens, and its build is out of the ordinary: three loops spin side by side, each with its own speciality. Cash prizes sit on the left, points prizes on the right, and the middle holds the famed Mystery rounds.

Visually, the sequence breaks with the rest. The table fades, the wheel takes over the whole screen, and the three rings each turn at their own pace. A proper cabaret act in the middle of a dice game.

You get five attempts on the wheel. At each stop, you are free to accept the prize offered or spin again, bearing in mind that the last result applies automatically. A small dilemma every turn, giving this bonus a genuine bargaining-table feel.

The Mystery rounds in Lux Dice: up to 100 times the stake

The centre of the wheel hides the best of it. The smaller segments hand out 2 to 6 Mystery rounds, while the two larger segments grant 30 in one go. It is by far the most coveted reward in the game.

During these special rounds, the prize table changes its face. Every win from the main game jumps to its maximum value, up to 100 times the stake. The 100-point threshold still applies, mind: you must clear it to bank anything.

In practice, a single entry into these rounds can redraw the whole session. Thirty rounds played at the top rate amount to a full evening condensed into a few minutes. Just the kind of prospect that makes you place one more set.

Lux Dice against the reels: the weight of the choice

One detail makes the difference for the connoisseur. The order in which you fill the boxes bears on the multiplier, so haste is rarely rewarded. Anyone who thinks for a moment before placing gets more out of every roll in the long run.

This placement format changes the nature of the session. The pace settles, each roll invites a few seconds of thought, and the screen waits for your move rather than unrolling its own. A welcome breather between two more automatic games.

The title fits the house style. Air Dice spreads this box mechanic across several of its releases, each with its own theme and its own bonuses. You recognise the studio's signature in three seconds.

On mobile, the table reorganises itself without losing readability. The boxes stay wide, the dice drop with a fingertip, and short sessions suit it naturally.

Lux Dice in short: what to remember

Lux Dice distils what makes placement games so charming: a roll, a decision, a clear scoring system. The Lux Wheel adds the spectacle, the Mystery rounds lift the ceiling to 100 times the stake, and the golden theme dresses the whole thing with flair.
