Every round follows the same sequence. You place your chips on the layout during the betting window, in as many spots as you like. The window closes, the ball is launched, and it eventually settles into a numbered pocket.

The layout divides into two zones whose logic differs entirely.
Inside bets go on the numbers themselves: a straight-up pays 35 to 1, a split covers two numbers for 17 to 1, a corner covers four for 8 to 1. Rare wins, high amounts, sessions full of sharp swings.
Outside bets cover broad sections of the layout: red or black, odd or even, low or high pay 1 to 1, while dozens and columns pay 2 to 1. Frequent wins, modest amounts, a budget that lasts longer.
A point often missed: the house edge is identical across all those bets, with the sole exception of even-money bets on French roulette. Choosing a straight-up over red therefore changes nothing about the expectation, only the volatility of your session.
