Casino with Mastercard or Visa: deposit with your debit card

Casino with Mastercard or Visa: deposit with your debit card

At an online casino, paying with Mastercard or Visa is still the most familiar option: you enter your card details as you would for any online purchase, approve the payment in your banking app, and your balance is topped up. At Casino King, you deposit with a Visa Debit or a Debit Mastercard from €10, and the money lands in your player account straight away.

One point matters before you reach for your wallet: in Belgium, only debit cards may be used on a gambling site, as the rules exclude credit cards. Below you will find how to check whether your card qualifies, how a deposit works, what your bank verifies and where your winnings go afterwards.

Visa Debit or Debit Mastercard: will your card be accepted?

Very probably, even if you have never used it for an online payment. Since 1 July 2023, Belgian banks have been replacing Maestro cards with Debit Mastercards as each one expires: more than ten million cards are involved, over a period of up to five years. BNP Paribas Fortis had already moved its debit cards to Visa in 2021.

These cards usually carry two logos: Bancontact for the Belgian network, and Visa Debit or Debit Mastercard for everything else. A single card therefore gives you two routes at the Casino King cashier: paying with Bancontact, or choosing Visa or Mastercard and entering the number on the card. Either way, the money comes out of the same bank account.

If in doubt, look at the card itself: it should normally say DEBIT, and your banking app also shows the type of each card. An old Maestro can still be used until its expiry date.

Why a Belgian gambling site turns down credit cards

This rule does not come from Casino King. The Royal Decree of 25 October 2018, which governs games of chance offered online, requires every holder of a Belgian licence to refuse payment systems that allow a credit card to be used. An attempt to deposit with a Visa or Mastercard credit card is therefore declined at the cashier.

The reasoning is straightforward: with a debit card, you play with money already in your account rather than with an advance the bank will ask you to repay the following month. The same thinking led to deposits being capped at €200 per week per site from 20 October 2022. You can ask for that cap to be raised in your account settings, which takes three days, whereas lower personal limits apply as soon as you save them.

Depositing by Visa or Mastercard at Casino King, step by step

Once your account is open, it only takes a moment:

  • log in, or sign up with itsme if you have not done so yet;

  • open the cashier with the Deposit button, then choose Visa or Mastercard;

  • enter the amount, from €10;

  • type in the card number, the expiry date and the three-digit security code printed on the back;

  • approve the request sent by your bank, then return to Casino King: the amount is already in your balance.

One condition applies without exception: the card has to belong to a bank account held in your own name. A partner's or a parent's card will be refused, even with their consent. As for cost, Casino King charges nothing on a deposit; only your bank may apply its own terms, which you will find in your card agreement.

3D Secure at the casino: the check your bank asks for

Right after you enter the card, a screen from your bank opens or a notification appears on your phone. This is 3D Secure, known as Visa Secure at Visa and Identity Check at Mastercard. Depending on your bank, you approve the payment in its app, with itsme or using your card reader.

This step applies the strong customer authentication set out in the European directive on payment services. It takes place between you and your bank: Casino King never sees your PIN or the answer you give. Your bank may also exempt some small transactions from confirmation, and that decision is entirely its own.

One search comes up again and again: a casino without 3D Secure. On a site licensed in Belgium, the question hardly arises, since the choice lies with the bank rather than the casino. A platform promising to skip it mainly takes away a safeguard against fraudulent use of your card, one more reason to check the licence and know how to spot an illegal casino.

A Mastercard casino from €10: what a first deposit gets you

The minimum card deposit is €10. That is a small amount, deliberately so: enough to try a game for real money without committing a large sum. At the lowest stake, €10 covers forty rounds of Star Dice Deluxe, where each round costs between €0.25 and €50.

For larger amounts, two limits may come into play before the cashier's own. The first is legal: the €200 a week mentioned above. The second comes from your bank: many debit cards have an online spending limit, daily or weekly, which you can adjust in the banking app. If you are planning a bigger deposit than usual, that setting is often the first thing to check.

Payment declined: why your debit card is not going through

When the cashier shows a refusal, the cause is almost always on this list:

  • the card entered is a credit card, which the rules exclude;

  • the deposit would take you over the €200 weekly cap;

  • the card's online spending limit has been reached;

  • the 3D Secure request was not approved in time and has expired;

  • the card has been replaced: a Maestro that became a Debit Mastercard has a new number, expiry date and security code, so the new card needs entering;

  • the card is not in your name.

Some banks also block payments to gambling sites by default; a setting in the app or a call to customer service usually lifts the block. If the card still will not go through, simply switch method: Bancontact, Bancontact Mobile and Paysafecard remain available, and the other deposit methods at a Belgian casino each have their strengths.

Your winnings go back to your account, not to the card

The return journey follows a different route. Winnings are not credited back to the card: they are paid into a personal bank account that has been verified beforehand. The rule stems from anti-money-laundering obligations, under which money may only move between payment methods that belong to you.

Before your first withdrawal, proof of that account is therefore checked, once only. Later requests skip that step, and the instant withdrawal limits and timings are set out on the page dedicated to withdrawals.

A Visa online casino licensed in Belgium

Accepting Visa and Mastercard says nothing about whether a site is legal: those networks serve merchants all over the world. The real benchmark remains the licence from the Belgian Gaming Commission. Run by SA Gambling City under licence B+19763, Casino King is the legal Belgian online casino where every card deposit follows Belgian rules: debit cards only, an account in your name, a weekly cap and confirmation by your bank.

Play is restricted to people aged 21 and over. Set your budget before the first deposit, and leave the credit card in your wallet: it will not be needed here.
